In a major tragedy, four persons were electrocuted, and more than a dozen were seriously injured when Muharram Tazia touched high voltage (11,000 volts) wires at Khetko village under Petarbar police station in Bermo division of Bokaro district, about 117 km from the city Ranchi on Saturday morning.
Khetko Panchayat Village Commander Shabeer Hussain told the media that the deceased villagers were identified as Asif Raja (21), Annual Rub (35), Gulam Hussain (18), and Sajid Ansari (18).
Among the injured persons, the village chief said, nine critical persons have been sent to Bokaro General Hospital (BGH), while others who sustained minor injuries are being treated at local clinics and hospitals.
Official sources said the incident took place at around 5.30 am when Muharram Tazia was being taken from Khetko village with Dargah Mohalla Imamabad to Karbala. On the way, Tazia came into contact with high voltage wires (11,000 volts) in which her battery exploded.
Four people died on the spot due to electric shock and dozens of Tazia parade participants were injured.
First, the injured persons were taken to the nearby DVC Thermal Power Hospital, where doctors referred the critical patients to the Bokaro General Hospital.
The family members of the injured persons alleged that since neither the divisional official in Berum nor any police official reached the spot as well as DVC Hospital, they had to face unnecessary delay in taking the injured persons to Bokaro Hospital as no ambulance was available there.
